A GROUP of dealers from China travelled to Knowle Auction Rooms for their fourth auction specialising in Asian art.
Phone bids and live internet bidding added to the excitement as the staff contacted Beijing, California, Hong Kong and Europe, whilst the Chinese visitors shouted out bids in a packed saleroom.
The collection came from various local sources and vendors were delighted with the results. Highlights were £30,000 for an 18th century jade cylindrical vase, £13,000 for a cloisonné moon flask and £11,000 for a Chinese hardwood table-top cabinet.
This represented the toppling of three auction records for the young staff who ended the night in exhaustion at 1am.
The June monthly auction will have a specialist section of tribal art as well as jewellery and watches, with further specialist auctions planned for Islamic art, photographs and vintage fashion.
