THE bustle and brilliance of Chinese New Year will be coming to Solihull this weekend.

Solihull Council has teamed up with restaurant owner Michael Chan and a number of other groups for a town centre celebration.

On January 24, Mell Square will be decked with paper lanterns and welcoming a host of entertainers.

Visitors will be treated to lion dances, oriental food and martial arts demonstrations.

Mr Chan, who runs the Wok’s Hall restaurant, said: “I have lived in Solihull a long time and wanted to give something back to the area.”

Cllr John Reeve, who is helping to plan the activities, is hopeful the day will become an annual event. This year’s celebrations will be taking place between 11am-3.30pm.
