A CLASSIC car, painstakingly restored to its former glory, was stolen from a family’s home in Solihull Lodge last week.
Mum Janet Averis was stunned to discover the £6000 Mini had disappeared from her driveway, in Nethercote Gardens, last Tuesday (January 29).
The vintage vehicle, which had been returned to its original condition over a four month period, had been taken by thieves while the family were inside their home.
She said that she had bought the car to celebrate her 18-year-old daughter Jade passing her driving test at the first attempt.
“She’s just devastated,” said Janet, aged 51. “We’ve only had the car since September and it’s just so frustrating that some toerag has driven off with it.
“I don’t think someone would have stolen it for the parts, it’s more than likely just some chancer who has seen it outside.
“It’s a very distinctive car and there’s not going to be very many on the road, so we’re just hoping that someone will know where it is.”
She had hoped the culprits had been caught on a nearby CCTV camera, installed to tackle anti social behaviour in the neighbourhood, but has since learned the mobile device isn’t a permanent fixture.
“Apparently it’s moved around different areas, but really I think it’s one of those things that should be there all the time.
“I spoke to one of my neighbours and he said that every time it’s taken down his garage is broken into or something else happens.”
The theft happened between 5.30-8.30pm. Anyone with information should call Solihull Police on 101.
