LESS than two months from now, hundreds of runners will be lining up to take part in the Knowle Fun Run.
And sounding the klaxon this year, will be none other than Solihull comedian Don Maclean. As well as starting the race, the veteran entertainer will be handing out the prizes and keeping the runners in good spirits.
This year’s event will be the 26th that Knowle and Dorridge Lions have organised and proceeds will be going to a number of worthy causes - including Macmillan Cancer Support and Whizz-Kidz.
Over the years, the Lions club have been supported by a whole host of local celebrities, including Jasper Carrott, Shefali Oza and Joanne Malin.
Adrian Harris, from the Lions club, said: “It does not necessarily include any running, although last year BBC Midlands presenter Sarah Falkland had threatened to join in the children’s 400 metre Mini Run, until she realised she had not brought her running gear. Don will be on hand to pose with teams and fancy dress runners and is bound to crack a joke or two to get the runners underway with a smile on their faces.”
More than 2000 runners took part in last year’s event and 800 have already put their names down for this year’s run - taking place on May 10.
Organisers hope that things will be a bit cooler this round - on the 25th run the fund raisers had to grapple with the hottest temperatures of the year. You have until April 30 to register - go to www.knowlefunrun.org.uk
