FRIENDS of the Shirley couple killed in a plane crash earlier this month are to hold a tribute concert to raise money for their young family.

The event, in memory of Nick and Emma O’Brien, will be held in Birmingham in March, with all the groups taking part performing for free.

The couple were parents to 18-month-old Joel and Mrs O’Brien had a 10-year-old son, Callum, from a previous relationship. The children are currently being cared for by relatives.

Organiser of the concert, Phil Docker, said Mr O’Brien’s favourite group, Shy, were set to headline the event. Venue staff and technicians had all agreed to work for free and a percentage of the bar takings would go to the cause, he added.

The concert is to be held at The Asylum in Hockley. Tickets will cost £5; a date has yet to be confirmed.

Mr O’Brien, aged 35, and his 29-year-old wife died when the Piper Cherokee they were travelling in crashed near Little Haywood in Staffordshire on January 2.
