COULD Chelmund’s Cross be the new name for Craig’s Croft Village Centre?
Last week, we reported how Chelmsley Wood Town Council were forced to add new options to the public vote to rename the shopping precinct after locals claimed suggestions to celebrate the area’s Saxon heritage were disregarded.
Now the Chelmsley in Partnership Residents Group and the Residents Implementation Group have decided on one new name; Chelmund’s Cross which will be added to the town council’s more traditional choices; Craig Croft, Craig Park or Dunster Road.
Baptist church minister Neil Roberts said: “Having discussed it with the community, we thought Chelmund’s Cross was the name they most wanted to suggest.
“The issue for me isn’t that we want that name to win, the issue was that we didn’t get the choice.
“The community have had a say now, I’m satisfied. I’ll be happy with whatever name they choose.”
Neil said that, for many, a new name meant an opportunity for a fresh start for the area.
“We wanted to show it is a good place to live and good things are happening here.”
Voting runs until February 21, with ballot boxes and voting forms available at a number of venues across the area.
