THE search is on again to find a special person to switch the Solihull lights on this Christmas.

THE search is on again to find a special person to switch the Solihull lights on this Christmas.

The Solihull Times has teamed up with Touchwood, Mell Square shopping centre and Solihull Town Centre Partnership to find one lucky reader who will join the big Christmas lights switch-on.

The winner will ensure the town sparkles in style by switching on this year's Christmas spectacular helped by a number of special guests and Father Christmas.

We are looking for that someone special who has been particularly brave or deserves recognition.

The winner will be guest of honour at Solihull's spectacular lights switch-on on November 27 and will also receive £200 worth of prizes. They will join Father Christmas and special guests on the centre stage in Mell Square for the prestigious event, which will also be hosted by BRMB.

Last year little Iona Atkins was chosen as the borough's Shining Star.

Then aged six, Iona, from Olton, underwent ten hours of brain surgery in 2007 to remove a slow-growing tumour called Craniopharyngioma.

Iona is still under regular observation by specialist doctors and recently had to go to hospital again for treatment.

To nominate the person you think deserves to switch on Solihull's Christmas Lights, please write to 'Shining Star Competition', Solihull Times, 4 Thornhill Road, Solihull, West Midlands, B91 2HB. The closing date is Friday, November 13.
