Solihull Council has won the ‘All Round Small Business Friendliness’ award together with Coventry City Council.
The presentation was part of the ‘Federation of Small Businesses’’ (FSB) Local Authority Awards.
Councillor Courts, cabinet member for economic development at Solihull Council said: “Small and medium businesses are vital to the growth of Solihull and the region’s economy.
“Solihull Council has worked hard to provide the right services to support the small and medium businesses in the borough so they can benefit from the growth happening there and create jobs for local people.
“Supporting SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in Solihull is a key priority for the council. The award from the FSB demonstrates we are not just providing the right service but that we have the best service to support and grow small and medium businesses.”
Ian O’Donnell, FSB Warwickshire and Coventry chairman, said: “‘These awards are an excellent way to highlight the sometimes less well known’ support and initiatives that councils provide the small business community such as parking schemes, procurement opportunities and new business support.
“We were delighted with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s application, particularly their procurement strategy which detailed how the council has signed up to the ‘National Small Business Concordant’, their overall SME focused support service - that supports new businesses from the pre-start stage- including young businesses in their first 12 months; and their proactive promotion of Small Business Rate Relief.”
Solihull Council provides a variety of services on the ‘Solihull for Success’ Business Portal including help if residents are thinking of setting up in business such as recruitment support, links with local schools, local property search, business networks and opportunities to meet with prime contractors.
