KNOWLE resident Cliff Morrey has urged all Solihull News readers to check their council tax banding after many of his neighbours were awarded substantial refunds this week.
Already 17 of his Woodrow Crescent neighbours have benefitted after being wrongly banded by Solihull Council.
It follows revelations made in last week’s News where Mr Morrey stood to benefit by over £3,000.
He claimed: “Of the 108 houses in Woodrow Crescent, 22 were F banded when it’s believed they should have been E.
“Already 17 of those will now get refunds and I believe there could be more.
“I would encourage everyone to check.
“I believe that when the poll tax was re-accessed, there was some sort of panic and it was done in a rush.
“If there are 17 homes wrongly banded in my road alone, it just makes you wonder how many more are.
“I think it’s going to be very embarassing for Solihull Council.
“Already they’ve had to pay back £51,000 and that’s just in my road alone - how much more will they have to pay at a time when they’re supposed to be saving money.
“What annoys me more is the fact we’ve been misled. They’ve had my money over the years, but I can’t get any interest back on that money”.
