Couple fined for lack of a licence

AN ELMDON couple have been fined for running an unlicensed dog boarding service.

AN ELMDON couple have been fined for running an unlicensed dog boarding service.

Sarah Clarke and Simon Ravenscroft, of Elmdon House, appeared before Solihull Magistrates on March 25.

The couple had pleaded guilty to offering to look after dogs between June 2008-September 2009.

This set-up was discovered after a council officer, posing as a customer, emailed Clarke - asking if she was licensed and insured.

She replied that she was and that she could usually take two dogs at a time, but this could increase during the busy summer months.

In September last year, the council wrote to the defendant - informing her that she was running an unlicensed boarding establishment.

Ten days later, an officer, posing as a customer, again emailed Clarke asking if she could board her dog.

She responded by saying that she could, and even offered to pick the dog up.

When interviewed, Clarke indiacted that Ravenscroft was also involved in the business and the authority decided to press charges.

The pair were fined £300 each and ordered to pay another £300 each in costs.

After the case, Clarke criticised the council’s decision to prosecute - saying it was a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
