TUNE in to amateur radio with the launch of a new course organised by Solihull Amateur Radio Society.
Radio amateurs make friends and talk to their friends by radio, often across continents.
Some transmit text and TV pictures. Many build their own equipment and find that their hobby enriches their technical knowledge and of course amateur radio can also provide emergency communication at times of crisis.
To transmit on the amateur bands people need a licence from Ofcom. There are three grades to achieve with increasing privileges designed to encourage progressive self training in technical and operating skills.
The society’s next course starts on June 6 on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9:30pm at the Shirley Centre, Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull.
The course is suitable for young people of around 12 plus through to those of pensionable years.
