A cut above the rest in girl’s charity bid

A SHIRLEY schoolgirl, who is battling a brain tumour, hopes to raise over a £1000 for charity.

A SHIRLEY schoolgirl, who is battling a brain tumour, hopes to raise over a £1000 for charity.

On Tuesday, nine-year-old Iona Atkins had her long, blonde hair cut to raise money for Brain Tumour UK.

And her curly locks will be used to make wigs for other children being treated for cancer.

Iona, who was diagnosed with the illness four-years-ago, had previously lost her hair while undergoing radiotherapy.

It has grown back vigorously, but the little girl wants to help youngsters who are going through the same treatment.

Mum Ann said: “It came as no surprise when Iona told me about what she wanted to do.

“She is a very loving and caring little girl who despite everything she has faced, remains so positive.”

If you would like to donate call-in at Anthony’s Hairdressers, Hall Green or call Brain Tumour UK on 0845 4500 386.
