A SOLIHULL Council meeting on Wednesday (October 6) evening was due to decide if a Smith’s Wood homeowner would be forced to have their property compulsorily purchased.

The resident, who lives in Woodpecker Grove, claims to have invested significantly in the property since buying it and refuses to relocate.

Planning consent for the proposed redevelopment of the area was obtained in March 2009 and North Solihull Partnership has successfully purchased 14 homes surrounding the home with 32 tenants already relocated.

However the three-bedroom terrace is the last occupied house in a row of seven and for the redevelopment to go ahead, all the homes need to be demolished.

The use of compulsory purchase and repossession powers was agreed in principle by Full Cabinet in July 2009.
