A TALENTED ballet dancer from Knowle is literally jumping for joy after being selected to perform for an upcoming production at the prestigious National Youth Ballet of Great Britain.

Dance-mad Ella Spittle-McGuire who lives in Woodrow Crescent has been at the barre since she was three-years-old and attends Valentine Theatre School in North Birmingham where she also takes tap, modern dance, freestyle, acrobatics and body conditioning.

The Arden School pupil auditioned for roles in the National Youth Ballet production which is celebrating its 21st anniversary season and was delighted to receive a call informing her of her success.

Ella, who is 13, said: "I was ecstatic and couldn't believe it when I got in. I didn't think I was going to because in the auditions I saw a couple of girls who were amazing. I spent a week at Elmhurst School for Dance in Birmingham during the summer and then went to London every Sunday for rehearsals at the English Ballet School in Chelsea."

The National Youth Ballet showcases young dancers from across the UK and is set to celebrate their 21st anniversary season with a stunning programme in London, Birmingham and Croydon.

The Company, founded by Jill Tookey MBE, also encourages children from all walks of life to become involved with the organisation through schools and community workshops.

Ella is delighted that her hard work has paid off. "I know I've got better since I've been there. My dance teacher Claire at Valentines said I had improved 100 per cent and I am looking forward to being in the show."

The programme comes to the Birmingham Hippodrome on November 16. Tickets are available on 0844 338 5000from £10.50 to £22.50.
