AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a man who fell from the roof of Solihull Hospital.

Lee Wright from Solihull had been a patient at the Bruce Burns Unit when he went missing on Sunday July 4.

The 59-year-old was spotted on the hospital roof at around 4.30pm and is understood to have fallen shortly afterwards. He was pronounced dead at Heartlands Hospital at 6.30pm.

Sue Turner, chief executive of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust said: “I can confirm that an incident occurred at Bruce Burns Unit on July 4, where a service user - who had been admitted to the ward on a voluntary basis – decided to temporarily leave the ward. Tragically, he died having fallen from the hospital’s roof.

“As per trust protocol, we promptly notified the relevant agencies and instigated a serious clinical incident review. Meanwhile, we are continuing to support the patient’s family at this difficult time.”
