A DEVELOPER who had been locked in battle with residents in Marston Green has gone into administration.
The Sandstone Group Ltd, which is based in Warwick, had fought a protracted battle to build a new housing estate in Elmdon Lane. The proposals were thrown out by Solihull Council and later the Government Inspectorate - initially Sandstone lodged a challenge in the High Court.
This latest appeal was abandoned at the end of last year, although bosses would not rule-out another application. Now the firm has become the latest victim of the credit crunch - calling in the administrators last month. Begbie Traynor, a Birmingham company, will be handling the process.
Linda Poulson is a member of Marston Green Opposing Overdevelopment - the residents’ group who led opposition to the Elmdon Lane plans. She said that the news of Sandstone’s collapse came as a relief to the village, but that locals did sympathise with the people who had lost their jobs.
