If you’re looking for a destination this Easter oozing culture, luxury and sophistication as well as boasting attractions suitable for all the family, then Stratford-upon-Avon certainly tops the list of places to visit.

Just half an hour’s drive from Solihull town centre, I jumped at the chance of accepting an invitation to experience all that the pretty market town has to offer for an unforgettable weekend of pampering, relaxation and entertainment.

Our Spring break turned wintry getaway (following the sudden snow storms) included a stay at the luxurious Menzies Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club.

Easily deserved of its four star rating, the award winning hotel is just a few minutes drive from Stratford town centre - giving visitors the chance to enjoy the beautiful rural surroundings while still being within easy distance of the town’s popular attractions.

We began our stay by enjoying a delicious lunch prepared by the hotel, in front of a roaring open fire, as we watched the snow fall over the 150 plus acres of grounds surrounding the Welcombe.

This was then followed by a trip to the hotel’s luxury spa, where we took full advantage of the outdoor heated pool, sauna, steam room and pool. The spa also offers further unwinding with its selection of massages and treatments.

Tearing ourselves away from the spa, we then ventured into Stratford for the evening to watch a production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre (RSC).

The RSC is described as ‘one of the most famous classical theatre companies in the world,’ attracting visitors far and wide with its outstanding Shakespeare productions and exhibitions.

Besides the theatre, Stratford has plenty to offer visitors in the evening, with its range of restaurants, cozy pubs and sophisticated wine bars.

A visit to Stratford would not be complete without learning about some of the history behind the market town - it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare after all.

Daytime attractions include an open top bus tour of Stratford and the chance to discover the world of Shakespeare at Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.

Visitors can also enjoy the array of independent and high street shops or take a stroll along the banks of the beautiful River Avon, which runs through the centre of Stratford.
