A STEEP increase in car parking charges at Birmingham Airport have been branded “ridiculous” by one angry visitor.
Teresa Mills, from Marston Green, was stunned to find she would have to fork out £7 for a 20 minute-stop in the short stay.
She discovered the hike when she went to collect her parents, Janet and Peter, from the airport last month.
The 48-year-old said that the charges were more than double what she paid only a fortnight earlier.
“I think it’s disgusting that they have increased it so much without any warning,” said mum-of-two Teresa.
“It wasn’t just me complaining, there were a few other people who had gone to pay and were angry about the rise.
“My parents are elderly so it takes a bit longer to go and pick them up and there will be plenty of people in the same position.”
Teresa, whose family regularly flies from the airport to visit her sister in Spain, felt the changes were poorly advertised.
“I almost feel like standing outside with a sandwich board to warn other people,” she added.
An airport spokesman said that the new tariffs were displayed around the airport site, including the approach to the car park.
“Despite a £2m investment in the facility, at peak times we have seen the drop and go car park become full and, in-turn, result in congestion on roads around the site.
“As such, we want to encourage people to access and exit the car park as quickly as possible.”
