HEARTLANDS Hospital last week organised a special lunch in celebration of the 10 participants who have taken part in a Live Donor Transplant in the last year.
The aim of the event, which was held at the Holiday Inn in Solihull, was to celebrate those people who have successfully been through the donation process and also to offer support to those considering the donor process.
More than 70 people attended the event to share their stories with others and to provide reassurance to potential participants.
Karen Hodgson, live donor transplant co-ordinator at Heartlands Hospital, has been responsible for doubling the amount of live donations at the hospital since she started the post in September 2008.
Karen told the Solihull News: “The event went extremely well and all donors and recipients were willing to share their experiences with different families going through the donation process.
“I hope that in the future we will continue to create awareness of live donation.”
Karen would like to pass on her greatest thanks to all the staff at the Holiday Inn in Solihull for their help and support in organising such a successful event.
