JUST when you think things couldn't get any worse with the economy, we were bombarded this week with fears a recession is on the way.
Just saying the word recession makes me feel gloomy and hearing about job losses, businesses going into liquidation and the "bear" market (if only it was as comforting as it sounds) is enough to make me want to run for cover - and fast.
On the side of "doom and gloom", The British Chamber of Commerce unleashed their second Quarter Economic Survey on Tuesday which questioned 5,000 businesses around the UK.
The report concluded that the credit crunch and rising costs had negatively affected the majority of sectors - which is why were seeing major job losses.Within days, we've heard of drastic cuts, predominantly within the housing and construction sector, with Persimmon, Redrow, Barratts, Bovis and our very own Chase Norton hitting hard times.
Luckily, the end is not too nigh, as we reported in the News this week, businesses in Solihull are still holding up well across most sectors.
The Solihull Chamber of Commerce recorded a more upbeat trend and was even optimistic we could ride out storm without plummeting into a recession.
So, I won't be going into hibernation just yet then.
