Dorridge fun run bowls couple over

WHEN Nick Chadaway and Vicky Barnett travelled from Sheldon to run in last year’s Dorridge Fun Run, they were so impressed with the area and the friendliness of the people they decided to get married at the church at the centre of it all and to look for a house in the locality.

They were duly married at St Philips in Dorridge in May and – honeymoon arrangements apart - are themselves now actively involved in organising the 2012 event which takes place this Sunday (June 17).

“We were just bowled over by the warmth and ambience on the day and have since made many friends at the church and in the community,” said Nick.

“Vicky and I regularly take part in organised races and it’s fair to say the Dorridge event is very special.

“Perhaps it’s no surprise that numbers this year are 20 per cent ahead of last year – which was itself a record.”

Participants can run walk or cycle a choice of three or eight mile routes through country lanes closed to traffic so it’s a good opportunity for families to go round the course together in complete safety.

Malcolm Stent will wave the starting flag at St Philips Church at 10.15am and all finishers will receive a medal then have the opportunity to relax at a Summer Fair.

Organisers are also hoping to top last year’s figure of £25,000 given away to charity.

Entry on the day is possible; but it’s cheaper and easier to enter beforehand and online at www.dorridgefunrun.org.
