Dorridge mum to take on second marathon in five weeks for Marie Curie

When mum-of-three Sue Johnson signed up with a borough running club with the aim of losing weight, she had no idea she’d be crossing the finish line at the London Marathon a little over a year later.

She decided to complete the 26.2 miles after discovering how much she enjoyed covering shorter distances with her all-women group.

And she hadn’t even run at London before she’d signed up for a second marathon, in Edinburgh, which takes place this Sunday (May 26).

She’ll be pounding the pavement of the Scottish capital in aid of Marie Curie and has even set up a sweepstake for people to guess how long it will take her to complete the course.

“I got back into training two days after I’d finished at London. I’m hoping to go a bit faster this time,” said the 47-year-old, from Dorridge. “When I was preparing for the first marathon I thought that Edinburgh was only five weeks later and I could do that one too.”

She admits she never dreamt she’d be tackling such long distance events when she started her running - so what would her advice be to others?

“I doesn’t matter what you look like while you’re doing it, just concentrate on enjoying it. And if I can do it, anyone can!”
