A drink-driver, who lost control of his car on a country lane and smashed into a tree has been banned for 12 months.

Carl Barton was just over the legal limit, in the early hours of October 6, when he lost control of his Mini on Cleobury Lane in Earlswood, after he claimed it ‘aquaplaned’.

Police attended at just after 4.20am and tested the 21-year-old, of Yardley Wood Road, Shirley, who was found to have 103 miligrammes of alcohol in 100ml of his blood, compared to the legal limit of 80.

Barton, a school cleaner, admitted the offence of drink-driving and was ordered to pay £215 in fines and costs. He also received a year’s driving ban.
