THE death and injury figures on our roads continue to be a cause for concern. It is very sad to hear how so many families suffer these terrible losses, especially when, in most cases, it is so unnecessary.
I am 87 and I have been driving for almost 60 years without even getting a parking ticket. When I was 80 I completed the Advanced Driving Test and passed. I did that to satisfy myself I was still a competent driver. I am not writing this to boast of my achievements, but to point out it is possible to go through a life of driving without contributing to this terrible carnage on our roads.
If you find yourself speeding to get somewhere quickly, ask yourself whether it matters if you get there two minutes late.
We can all help to cut down this terrible waste if we just think. I would add that I am not an old fuddy-duddy who drives slowly and holds everybody up - if you drive too slowly on the Advanced Test you fail!
