A DRIVER who got behind the wheel without insurance was taking his friend to a family member who had been shot, a court was told.

Daniel Hall, of Faircroft Road, Castle Bromwich, was caught by police on July 18 driving his Ford Fiesta along Kingfisher Drive without an appropriate insurance policy.

Addressing Solihull magistrates on Monday, the 27-year-old said he was asked by a friend to take him by car to see his cousin who had just been shot.

“He [friend] was upset and shaky - he asked me to take him to see his cousin who had just been shot. I felt I had no choice but to drive him in case something happened to his cousin.”

Hall pulled up at Kingsfisher Drive and following a check on the vehicle, police discovered he was driving the car without insurance.

Magistrates were told Hall already has three points on his licence for driving a car with a smashed window.

Hall pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and was given six points on his licence, fined £170 and told to pay £80 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
