FOLLOWING on from the success of Deaf Awareness Week last month, a new initiative is being launched in Solihull.
Signs4Life UK are setting up introductory employee in-house courses ranging from one day to six week programmes towards equipping people in communicating and dealing with the deaf community.
“You never know when you will come into contact with a customer or member of the public who is deaf or hard of hearing,” explains Sara Phillips, founder of Signs4Life.
“British Sign Language is the first language of 95,000 deaf people in the UK and we are working with organisations as varied as care homes, police forces, the Red Cross and Asda.
“We can tailor our training packages to the needs of your organisation so that specific issues are fully covered and just learning a small amount of signing will help you comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.”
Signs4Life UK is leading efforts to see a society in which deaf people have full access and are working hard to raise the public and political awareness of deafness and deaf people.
