A FUND raising project, which started almost 40 years ago, is still going strong in Temple Balsall.
Volunteers from Lady Katherine Housing and Care will one again be putting the kettle on, to raise money for the charitable foundation.
The idea of serving tea and cake began in the early 1970s - when money was sorely needed to repair the roof of St Mary’s Church.
Although the first event raised the princely sum of 50p, the volunteers persisted and went on to collect £17,000 in the space of nine years.
Today, teas are still served in Temple Balsall, every Sunday from Easter to October. The 2010 events began on Easter Sunday and visitors are welcome between 2.30-5pm.
If you’d like to go along, the afternoons are held in the Old Hall, off Fen End Road.
