A CHARITY golf day organised by the Mayor of Solihull proved to be a great fundraiser for cancer charities.
The Mayor’s ‘Alternative’ Ryder Cup saw 23 teams battling it out for the championship title, at the charity par 3 golf challenge, held at Nailcote Hall Hotel, in Berkswell. And raised £2,500 into the bargain.
The Rotary Club of Alcester Alauna took home the title, as well as four bottles of champagne and Nailcote Golf Balls. Second place went to Issacs Financial Services.
The event was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, and The Prostate Cancer Charity, and supported by the Rotary Clubs of Alcester Alauna, Meriden, Solihull, and Knowle & Dorridge. Players and extra guests enjoyed a three course meal, and entertainment including a charity raffle and auction, during the evening.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ian Courts said: “This was a great day. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and we had some really good rounds of golf. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who took part or came along – it was all for two very good causes.
“Cancer diagnoses touch many members of our community. I am very keen to get across that prevention is better than the need for cure.”
