Fallen tree leaves 1,200 homes without power

A POWER cut last weekend left more than 1,200 homes in and around Dorridge without electricity.

A POWER cut last weekend left more than 1,200 homes in and around Dorridge without electricity.

The distruption to the supply last Sunday was caused by a fallen tree tree - felled by high winds which bought down two 11,000v power lines.

Fire crews were called to Hogarths Hotel in Four Ashes Road as a precaution at 5.30pm. Two 1,000 metre sections of power line were lying in a field and driveway.

The area was cordoned off for safety reasons and engineers isolated the supply.

A Central Networks spokesman said yesterday (Tuesday) that 1,224 customers, mostly in the Dorridge and Hockley Heath area, were affected by interrupted supplies, but some were back on again within eight minutes.

"We switched power supplies and got another 400 back on by about seven o'clock. The very last restoration was completed about 11pm.

"Our engineers re-strung the line, starting at about 8pm and everything was completed in about three hours."
