LOSING her granddad to heart disease has helped inspire a local nurse to take part in a 400km cycle ride.
Nikki Wright, from Marston Green will be riding from Budapest to Vienna - with proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation.
She will be starting out from the Hungarian capital next month and hopes to cross the finish line four-days later.
The 30-year-old told the Solihull News that there were several reasons why she’d chosen to raise money for the BHF.
“Recently I’ve been working at the coronary care unit at Heartlands Hospital, so I deal with heart patients everyday,” she said.
“But there’s also a strong family connection. My granddad died from heart disease and a couple of other relatives have been diagnosed.”
Last month, Nikki held a fund raising party at the Firs Entertainment Suite, in Castle Bromwich.
The evening raised £1400 for the challenge, but she still needs to raise another £600.
