A MINOR injuries unit will be returning to Solihull town centre over the festive period.
Paramedics, nurses and volunteers from St John Ambulance will be staffing the unit in the High Street.
They will be on-hand to treat walking wounded and revellers who have had too much to drink on a night-out.
The idea was piloted last December and will be making a return on the busiest nights over Christmas.
Stephen Munday, Solihull’s director of public health, said: “These particular nights around Christmas and New Year have seen a huge rise in hospital emergency admissions in the past.
“We want to help people and also relieve pressure on the hospital by treating the more minor cases on the spot.”
Police officers, alcohol referral group Aquarius and domestic violence organisations will also be stationed at the temporary site.
Solihull’s unit will be open tonight (December 18), tomorrow, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. Staff will be on hand from 9pm-4am.
Units will also be set up on Birmingham’s Broad Street and at St John Ambulance HQ in Dudley.
