IT’S second time lucky for Opus theatre as they return to to the Dovehouse Theatre with the hilarious production of “Bride or Groom?”.
However the cast weren’t laughing the first time they tried to perform this play in Solihull.
The stage was set, actors were arriving and make-up was being applied when a telephone call was received... One of the leading ladies was ill and couldn’t make the journey.
No problem! The show must go on, her stand-in rushed 25 miles down the M42, the show was saved and the audience would never know.
With literally an hour to go, lines were rehearsed when suddenly a leading actor fell and hurt his back... he couldn’t even stand.
With only four actors in the entire play it was deemed unfair to expect the audience to pay to watch a play with two actors, one stand-in and one man reading the lines from a script and so for the first time in the company’s history the show had to be, sadly, cancelled.
But now they are back and ready to put a show with a cast (touch wood) in full health.
Bride or Groom? by Bill Cashmore and Andy Powrie is a brilliant comedy and tells, funnily enough, a tale about the pleasure and pain of weddings.
Will the dress fit? Will the best man be too drunk to deliver his appalling speech? Will anybody care? Clever and extremely funny, as well as being poignant and touching, ‘Bride or Groom?’ will have audiences laughing with tears of pleasure and pain as the characters unravel the hysterical plot.
Starring Catherine Manford (wife of Jason Manford, team captain of Channel 4’s ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’) Tom Mcarron, Alyson Joynes and Lee Garrett , and directed by Gerry Hinks it’s on at the Dovehouse Theatre, Kineton Green Road, Olton, Solihull on Thursday, June 11 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 from the box office on 0121 706 7139.
