Fingers crossed for a sunny Shirley Carnival

ORGANISERS of Shirley Carnival are crossing their fingers for sunny skies this Saturday, as the popular event finally comes to town.

ORGANISERS of Shirley Carnival are crossing their fingers for sunny skies this Saturday, as the popular event finally comes to town.

The annual event was postponed in July - for the first time in 35 years - because of the wet weather, which left the field unusable.

Billed as the biggest and best yet, this years carnival, organised by Shirley Lions, will feature a host of local talent, including Shirley Brass Band and the Animated Dance Academy.

This year we believe we have a wide range of different entertainment that should appeal to everyone, young and old, Carnival chairman Phil Rippington said.

Other attractions include stalls, childrens rides and the Nachdey Dasdey Bhangra Group.

Gates open at 12noon, with the programme of events starting at 12.30. Admission costs s1.
