Firms miss out on profits tips

STAY-away business leaders in Shirley missed out on top tips to boost their profits and get their own website for free at the latest event promoted by town centre manager Becki Wood.

STAY-away business leaders in Shirley missed out on top tips to boost their profits and get their own website for free at the latest event promoted by town centre manager Becki Wood.

In difficult economic times and with some 250 businesses on the Stratford Road alone, only 15 made it to the event at The Village Hotel last Thursday.

“I am very disappointed,” said Becki. “It was a fantastic evening at a great venue, and what we gave out was really valuable information. I was disappointed that a number of Shirley businesses who need this advice and information didn’t attend the event.

“One guy couldn’t because his wife had just gone into labour so I’ll let him off but whether it was the time of year or people were away, I don’t know.”

What the business community missed were some top marketing tips, the latest on the borough’s solihullforsuccess.com/ website and the opportunity for one-to-one meetings with a business advisor.

There was also a free website for every business that turned up and the latest from Solihull College on the new retail training programme by TV turnaround guru Mary Portas.

For business people having second thoughts, the opportunity for getting their own free website is still available by calling Becki on 0121 704 8752 or e-mail:bwood@solihull.gov.uk, while the next event is planned for October/November on a theme of interest to local firms.
