THE young winner of a talent competition hosted by Touchwood Shopping Centre during the summer has just recorded her first album.
Shannon Harvey from Walsall wowed audiences during the Solihull centre’s ‘Touchwood Has Talent’ contest with a rendition of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’.
The 13-year-old beat off competition from ten other finalists before being awarded the top spot, winning a day in a recording studio and £500 worth of Touchwood vouchers.
Shannon said: “Singing is my dream so I was so thrilled to be able to go to a recording studio and follow in the footsteps of my idols by putting together an album of my favourite songs.
“The experience has been just as exciting as I imagined it would be. It still hasn’t sunk in that I have an album and I can’t wait to send a copy to all my friends and family for Christmas.”
Shannon’s mum Wendy added: “We’re so proud of Shannon. She’s always had such a beautiful voice and we were over the moon when she won the Touchwood Has Talent competition.
“She’s had great fun spending the Touchwood voucher on a mobile phone with mp3 so she can listen to her music all the time and she also loves fashion so she went on a shopping spree in her favourite stores.
“The day in the recording studio was incredible. It was fantastic to see her doing what she’s always wanted to do and I’m sure that this is just the first step to her becoming a superstar.”
Shannon has called her album ‘The Climb’ to represent her climb in the music industry as she appreciates every opportunity she gets. The album features 12 covers of some of Shannon’s favourite artists including Michael Jackson and Sheryn Regis.
Lucy Burnett, marketing manager at Touchwood said: “Touchwood Has Talent was the highlight of this year’s summer music festival. Shannon’s star quality shone through and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when she got a standing ovation from the crowd.”
