From the blooming Buddelia to the glorious Gladioli, each flower impressed the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies.
The Mayor and his wife Mayoress, Brenda Davies were visiting this year’s winners of Solihull Community Housing’s Annual Tenants and Leaseholders Garden and Community Champion Competition.
This year’s winner, Syliva Bell-Hartley impressed the judges with her beautiful floral displays which she painstakingly takes care of in her garden in Knowle.
Gay Hines-Randle from Melbick Garden and Leisure Centre in Coleshill was the judge of this year’s garden competition. She said, “This year’s entries were better than ever and I was incredibly impressed with the amount of time and effort all the entrants had made.”
Another important winner this year was Denise Master from Castle Bromwich who won the Community Champions award for the help she gives to her neighbours, as well as caring for her visually impaired husband.
The inspirational woman was nominated by her neighbour, George Ward, saying “Denise came to my help when I was having problems. She goes to pay all my bills for me and gets my shopping in every week...she is always willing to help, even though she has to care for her husband who is visually impaired. I can’t thank her enough for her help.”
