TWO talented Solihull footballers have won soccer scholarships at US universities.

The student athletes will have their higher education heavily subsidised after securing the places through the Pass4 Soccer Scholarships agency.

Jack Newbold, from Bradford Road, Castle Bromwich, will be joining Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta. The former Coton Green FC player will arrive in August 2011 to study and play for ‘The Jaguars’ team.

The 19-year-old said: “I hope to study journalism. My scholarship is originally for two years and hopefully another two years at a major university. One of my friends is already out there. I can’t wait, it’s an opportunity I wouldn’t get here.”

Jack’s scholarship over four years is in recognition of both his academic achievements to date and his athletic ability.

Solihull Sixth Former and ex-Highgate United FC player Keleenna ‘Albert’ Onyeaka will be joining Felician College in New Jersey in August.

Albert, from Burnaston Cresent, Monkspath, will play for the ‘Golden Falcons’.

He said: “I got released from Notts County Academy and I always wanted to play football.

“I’d heard about basketball players getting scholarships and my friend gave me the details for Pass4 Soccer.

“I played some showcases for American coaches and got offers from seven or eight clubs.

“It’s a real life experience to go to America.”
