Formal approval for Solihull Casino

EXCITING plans for a large casino are to begin as Solihull Council have accepted an invitation to become a licensing authority.

EXCITING plans for a large casino are to begin as Solihull Council have accepted an invitation to become a licensing authority.

Preparations are getting underway to award the licence after Parliament approved government plans for 16 large and small casinos at different locations across the country last month.

Solihull will home one of the eight large casinos which are allowed to provide up to 150 slot machines offering jackpots of up to £4,000.

The other locations will be in Leeds, Southampton, Great Yarmouth, Middlesbrough, Hull, Milton Keynes and Newham, East London.

Safeguards will be provided to protect young and vulnerable people, including a ban on using credit cards to buy chips and play gaming machines.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Bob Sleigh, said they are delighted to start preparing for the large casino.

"We are pleased that Parliament has now given formal approval so that we can move forward following the Council's decision to accept the invitation to become a licensing authority for a large casino.

"This offers the prospect of an exciting facility that will bring additional employment and economic regeneration opportunities to the borough." ..SUPL:
