A former rugby club house has been left in ruins by a severe blaze.

West Midlands Police and the fire service believe the fire was started deliberately.

The incident happened on Thursday May 8, at 8.28pm, at the former rugby club house of the Birmingham & Solihull Bees in Sharmans Cross Road, Solihull.

The building is named the Arden club and is derelict. Four fire engines were needed to put out the blaze, using three main jets and two hose reels.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “It was a severe fire in a brick built club house – 50 metres by 20 metres.

“Sixty per cent of the building was affected by the fire. The gas and electric was isolated and firefighters returned the next day to check the building.

“No one was in the building at the time.”
