PATIENTS at two local GP practices are all set to benefit from a new weight management and healthy lifestyles programme.

Hobs Moat Medical Centre and Meadowside Family Health Centre have secured practice- based funds from Solihull NHS Care Trust enabling them to offer patients a twelve-week programme to help manage their weight and achieve a healthier lifestyle.

On awarding the funds, Sue Phillips, Practice Based Commissioning Manager, South Solihull said: “We are delighted to be able to get this innovative programme off the ground. The idea came from the practices and their patients who were looking for support in terms of both weight management and physical activity at their local practice.”

Sandra Reynolds, Practice Manager at Hobs Moat Medical Centre said: “Patients signing up can get advice on healthy eating and exercise from their practice nurse on either a one-to-one basis or at a weekly walk-in clinic”.

Being overweight can cause unwanted health problems including increased risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes. There is also an increased risk of gallstones, osteoarthritis, sleep apnoea and even some cancers. The good news is that just a small reduction in weight and or waist measurement is known to have BIG health benefits.

Vicki Baker, Practice Manager at Meadowside Family Health Centre said: Those signing up will also benefit from fortnightly physical activity classes at a much-reduced rate of just £1 per session.”

Anybody interested should call contact their practice.
