A BOWLING green in Solihull could be placed on a list of historical importance following concerns that the site could be built on.

Solihull Council will consider whether the land at the George Hotel, The Square, should be placed on the local list of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, which is maintained by the English Heritage.

Author of the report considered by councillors this week, Martin Saunders, said the land was of significant interest and adding it to the list would afford it greater protection.

The report outlines that many greens in the area - including those at the Greswolde Hotel and Red Lion in Knowle, George in the Tree, Balsall Common and the Colebrook in Shirley - have either fallen into disuse or have already been built on.
