Future Solihull cycling star Lucy Shaw is looking forward to starting a new chapter in her sporting career when she starts training with Olympic double gold medallist Laura Trott and world champion Elinor Barker later this month.

Lucy, who came through the ranks of Solihull Cycling Club, is being sponsored to ride for Matrix Fitness – a team at the forefront of women’s cycling in the UK – by signs and graphics specialists Hollywood Monster. As she prepares to head to Limoux in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France at the end of this month, the 17-year-old said she was looking forward to joining the professional team.

She added: “I’m really excited about meeting my new team mates and learning from the experienced riders such as Laura Trott and Lucy Martin. I’m concentrating on getting a good base of fitness over the winter and I’m also working a lot on my strength in the gym so that I’m fully prepared for the racing season. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in in the national women’s road series and the tour series where I will get to race hard and hopefully get some good results.”

Tim Andrews, managing director of Hollywood Monster added: “Lucy is definitely one to watch in cycling and we are thrilled to sponsor a local athlete as she begins this new phase in her career.

“We will watch with huge interest this coming season to see how she develops.

“She is in a fantastic position for her age and has the chance to learn from some of the very best cyclists in the world.”
