A CHARITY evening held to mark the 40th anniversary of a popular Solihull hotel raised a huge £10,000.

The anniversary gala held at the Arden Hotel, in Bickenhill, made £5,000 for Acorns and a further £5,000 for the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust during a night of celebrations on Saturday, November 8.

The gala dinner was served in the Henley suite and consisted of five courses inspired from the most popular dishes served at the Arden over the past 40 years.

These included Melon Frappe, Sole Bonne Femme, Duck a la Orange/Steak Diane, Baked Alaska Jubilee and Farmhouse Cheeses.

Comedian and after dinner speaker Duggie Brown, who is a regular guest at the hotel, entertained the diners while in a nod to its early days as a roadside cafe, bacon butties were served up in the conservatory at 1am.
