I WOULD like to thank the people of Knowle, Dorridge, Bentley Heath and the surrounding area who responded so generously to the RNLI collection on Saturday, October 10.
The sum raised was a new record total of £1,478. As the lifeboat service is funded by voluntary contributions and legacies, it is most reassuring to our local committee to know that there is such wholehearted support for this work in the heart of England. In 2008 total RNLI expenditure was £138.5m and 8,293 launches were made from the 235 lifeboat stations. Should any of your readers wish to receive further details of our activities in the area, I would be only too pleased to hear from them on 01564 778183. The branch can also provide speakers for societies or clubs.
