AGE Concern Solihull has reminded mature travellers of the importance of taking a break this summer, even if they remain in the UK because of the current economic climate.
Research shows that 39 per cent of people in the West Midlands won’t be going on holiday this summer, with 60 per cent of those saying it is due to money worries.
Although recession can making going away difficult, Age Concern is kee to emphasise the importance of older residents to try and get away.
Chris Weston, from Age Concern Solihul, says: “Our work in Warwickshire means that we interact with many older people on a daily basis, and our experience shows that taking a break is important for them. The over-50s hugely value taking short breaks - even just a few days away in the UK can help you to relax and unwind.
Age Concern offers ‘Great Holidays Made Easy,’ a holiday option which offers a wide range of holidays for both individual travellers and group trips throughout the UK, aimed specifically at the more mature residents of the borough.
The trips include free sightseeing excursions and direct coach travel to the resort, and emphasis is placed on good value - so anyone feeling affected by the recession can feel able to take a holiday where previously they had assumed otherwise.
