BERKSWELL Post Office looks set to become the latest victim to suffer closure despite pleas from local MP Caroline Spelman.
The move by the Government and Post Office Ltd to shut the Church Road outlet had seen petitions handed to Downing Street as well as the Meriden MP's individual campaign.
Post Office Ltd says the closures are needed because the number of customers are falling and more people are using the internet to access services.
But the news is not good for Berkswell residents who have lost a 'focal point that was the epitome of village life' according to Mrs Spelman.
Recently she had been working with postmistress Stella Ebbans and had called in the Federation of Small Businesses to strengthen the case against closure.
But Mrs Ebbans, who has run the post office with husband John for nearly two years admitted that she was 'totally disillusioned' with the imminent decision.
"I'm angry and upset. It's a terrible shame for the village."
