EIGHT golfers from Robin Hood Golf Club recently swapped their golf buggies for bicycles to take on a charity bike ride.

The 125-mile route took the cyclists from Ilfracombe to Plymouth and was done to raise money for Ladies Captain Jane Brennan's chosen charity, The Meningitis Trust.

Despite their exhaustion and saddle sores, the riders collected £1,300 between them.

Jane said: "This is an excellent sum of money to add to the funds already raised by everyone in the Golf Club.

"I would like to thank all those who took part in this event and to everyone including the many members who have contributed so generously to my chosen charity."

The Trust was formed in 1986 with the aim of supporting families that have had an experience of Meningitis and to raising public awareness about the potentially fatal disease.

Matt Croxall, Community Development Officer for The Meningitis Trust said: "We would very much like to thank Jane Brennan and the members of Robin Hood Golf Club for supporting the charity and for this very generous donation."
