Gym ban is handed to serial thief

A SERIAL thief who stole from 100 changing room lockers has been banned from every gym in the West Midlands.

A SERIAL thief who stole from 100 changing room lockers has been banned from every gym in the West Midlands.

Lee Lynch, from Chilvers Grove, Kingshurst, was described by police as “scourge of West Midlands’ gym-goers” after admitting breaking into lockers and stealing wallets, cash and mobile phones at Birmingham Crown Court last Friday (January 27).

The court heard that Lynch had raided lockers at Wyndley Leisure Centre, in Sutton Coldfield, last July and was handed a 32-weeek prison sentence, suspended for two years.

But this didn’t deter the 48-year-old who on September 20, visited Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-on-Trent and used a screwdriver to prise open changing room lockers before hiding in a cubicle to steal £12 in loose change from trouser and coat pockets.

Lynch’s suspended sentence was taken into account at Crown Court where he was handed a 56-week jail term and four-year Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order, restricting him from any sports centres, swimming baths, gyms, hotel leisure complexes, schools, colleges and university grounds in the region.
