Hampton-in-Arden sub-postmaster role an opportunity for Sue Cain

SCORES of post offices may have closed in recent years but that has not discouraged Sue Cain from taking over one in Solihull.

SCORES of post offices may have closed in recent years but that has not discouraged Sue Cain from taking over one in Solihull.

She is the new sub-postmaster at Hampton-in-Arden - “don’t call me postmistress” - and says she is confident the branch will survive any further cuts.

“People in and around this village appreciate having a post office and make good use of the services it provides,” said Sue, who is 56 and married with two daughters.

“I’ve done a lot of jobs - hairdresser, nurse, shop assistant - but I’ve always wanted to run my own business. That’s why I wanted the post office.”

Sue, who lives in Hampton, takes over from Moris - better known as Mike - Patel, who has run the post office in Hampton’s High Street for eight years and has left to pursue other business interests.

The High Street branch is also a newsagents and sells a range of goods including greetings cards, stationary and confectionary.
