Hampton residents slam all day parkers

RAIL passengers parking up all-day in Hampton-in-Arden are causing a major headache for local residents.

RAIL passengers parking up all-day in Hampton-in-Arden are causing a major headache for local residents.

Some 250 residents have signed a petition, calling for action against the commuters leaving their cars in the village.

Now locals have taken up their concerns with Meriden MP Caroline Spelman and councillor Bob Sleigh (Con, Bickenhill).

“It’s quite a difficult situation, because we’ve got to make sure we don’t come down on the residents,” said Coun Sleigh.

“Discussions will be taking place this week to see if we can find a solution to the problem.”

It’s understood that the situation has been made worse, after Severn Trent moved its HQ to the Coventry.

As part of the water company’s green transport initiative, many workers are being encouraged to take public transport to work.

But drivers are finding their isn’t the space to park at Hampton Station and are leaving their cars on the roadside.

A number of residential areas have had the same problem, including Marston Green and Dorridge.

Coun David Jamieson, cabinet member for transport and highways, heard several complaints at a recent meeting.

“It’s obviously good that people are using public transport, but this problem needs addressing,” he told fellow councillors.

A meeting to discuss the situation in Hampton-in-Arden is due to take place on Thursday, December 16.
